If you're wanting a farm adventure or even taking a little time out and heading to Phillip Island on a mini break, Caldermeade Farm is the perfect way to break the journey.
We were drawn to Caldermeade Farm as it meant the kids could have a run around, experience a new farm, we could get a coffee and devour some lunch.
The farm centres around the rustic farmhouse cafe which is smack bang in the middle of it all. Inside you can enjoy a hearty breakfast, fresh homemade pies, devonshire tea and other tasty treats. Meals are large and could easily be shared by two. There's a breakfast kids menu serving pancakes, bacon and egg or toast and a kids lunch menu serving fish and chips, nuggets and chips (the usual fare) and highchairs are available. The milkshakes are creamy and certainly warrant a taste!
On a cold winters day the roaring fireplace is a cosy and welcome spot to dine near or in Warmer weather you can sit outside in the fresh air.
A change table is situated in the restroom. It's also worth mentioning there are vegetarian and celiac options available and the staff are very welcoming and accommodating.
Outside the cafe is a kids playground, a real tractor to climb and scramble on (great photo opportunities here!) and a little petting animal enclosure of goats, pigs, calves, chickens and a rabbit pen. You can't feed the animals but you can certainly have a close encounter with them. Around the back of the cafe is a massive dairy where you can watch cows being milked at 3.30pm everyday. Viewing is via a glass fronted platform and forms a great insight into a working farm.
You and the kids will be thankful for this little country stop-off.
Wear gumboots. There's only one path to the cafe and the grounds can become water logged.
