-          Event: Dare to enter Lion Gorge at Melbourne Zoo!
-          Location: Melbourne Zoo
-          Date: 20 December 2014 – 28 February 2015

This summer, Melbourne Zoo opens its newest experience: Lion Gorge…
Dare to enter Lion Gorge and come face-to-face with our magnificent African Lion bachelor group. Learn about the shifting dynamics of dominance that happen within a group of male lions and see our three lion brothers display sibling rivalry that a lunch-time meal can produce at our new Lion presentations. Plus, you can try your hand at designing beadwork that can help to protect lions in the wild.
See our new African Wild Dog pack settling into their new home and hear all about this alert and agile hunter during their presentation. You’ll also be able to test your skills as a predator, searching for prey through a series of challenges.
And, be amazed by one of the most awe-inspiring creatures on earth, the Philippines Crocodile, in the new exhibit. This freshwater crocodile is critically endangered in the wild, with its numbers only in the hundreds. As part of the Lion Gorge experience, you can complete challenges to see what it’s like to work with local community members to find and protect crocodile hatchlings.
Plus, this summer only, Melbourne Zoo will be transforming the historic Main Drive into a stunning gallery of wildlife photography, and our presenters in the Keeper Kids play space will be telling stories and running special fun activities with bite!
Don’t forget, kids are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!

-          Event: Hippo Beach at Werribee Open Range Zoo!
-          Location: Werribee Open Range Zoo
-          Date: 20 December 2014 – 28 February 2015

The best beach in town opens for the first time this summer at Werribee Open Range Zoo!
Feel the sand between your toes at our new Hippo Beach, as you dig for buried treasure under the shade of thatched umbrellas.
Watch our hippos as they snooze on the bank and splash through the water, then hit the relax button and find a deck chair to enjoy or swing with the summer breeze in a comfy hammock.
Be sure to pack the kids’ bathers for a cooling splash through the Zoo’s hippo water play area, just next to the beach. You can also jump on the Safari Tour to see the Hippos from another angle and spot their African animal friends - rhinos, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and more - out on the savannah.
Each day Keepers will feed the hippos and chat to visitors about their amazing habits, with a special Hippo Keeper Talk at 3.45pm daily.
Hippo Beach provides an oasis in the summer heat with shady spots to relax, along with cool drinks and ice-cream available right next door at the Hippo Beach Cafe.
Cool off this summer at Werribee Open Range Zoo’s new Hippo Beach.
Don’t forget, kids are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!

-          Event: Splash into summer at Healesville Sanctuary!
-          Location: Healesville Sanctuary
-          Date: 20 December 2014 – 28 February 2015

Splash into summer at the Sanctuary! Chill out in our misty spray zones, wade through the Badger Creek Sprinkler Spray and discover how our animals keep cool over the warmer months.

If you’re lucky enough, you might get a glimpse of our Dingoes cooling off in one of their favourite pastimes - walking through Badger Creek - or see a gorgeous Goanna going for a dip.

You’ll feel refreshed after wandering along our many shaded, tranquil trails throughout the Sanctuary. Be sure to visit our brand new RACV Lyrebird Aviary, Echoes in the Mist, where you’ll get a bird’s eye view from our forest canopy while you cool down beside the misty waterfall.
Don’t miss our daily world-first presentation, Tales from Platypus Creek. You’ll find out more about the mysterious Australian monotreme, the Platypus, and discover the watery world of our local wildlife. Plus you’ll learn why healthy waterways are important and what you can do every day to save water.
Then make your way to the Wetlands and count how many of our 14 water birds you can see - but be warned - our keepers and Zooperheroes will be out and about and are armed with water pistols ready to hose down extinction – and even an eager visitor or two!

Slip, slop, slap with us this summer at Healesville Sanctuary: we promise you’ll have the best fun ever!

Don’t forget, kids are free every weekend, Victorian Government school holidays and public holidays!
