Today we got our warm winter gear on, donned our brollies and jackets in anticipation of excessive precipitation. Our destination? The Alexander Theatre at Monash, Clayton to witness The Gruffalo's Child, live on stage. Antonio 7, Frankie 5, Dante 4, were all anxious to see this book come to life.
We were charmed by The Gruffalo's Child. The show was simply wonderful. The delightful rhyming prose; the simple, changeable sets; the catchy musical refrains, all culminated to make a magnificent one hour show. There was great humour for the kids, and they got to join in the show, shouting catchphrases from the classic book, clapping and doing different actions along with the cast.
The Gruffalo's Child is a great book, and it has been superbly adapted to the small musical stage. I have to say that the cast were amazing and really brought all the characters to life, in a way I had never imagined.
During the performance, I looked over to see three smiling faces (not that blank vacant stare I've seen way too often when watching TV) these boys were engaged, involved and entertained. That says more than any review I can give you.
Thanks to Siobhan and her boys for kid-testing The Gruffalo's Child for us.
