Kid Friendly Cafes
Once upon a time, you could enjoy a leisurely latte and read the newspaper in peace at your local cafe or enjoy a restaurant spulge whenever you felt like it without worrying about pram access or the proximity to the nearest changing table.
But these days you can’t remember the last meal out that didn’t come with crayons. With two children under 2.5 years, boy do we understand this! We scour the 'Kid-Friendly', 'Family Friendly' and Grown-up Melbourne dining scene to uncover tasty spots that really are kid-friendly and foodie worthy, then bring you our favourites. We're not reviewers by any means but we do love Melbourne's cool cafe scene and eat out a lot so I think it's only natural that we share a few of them with you - we really are spoilt for choice in Melbourne.
Sprinkled throughout the cafe and restaurant 'reviews' are tips for dining out with mini royalty, like beat the dinner rush with a late-afternoon seating at one of our fav's and locals, Mr. Wolf.
We're interested in eating where children are welcome and where us adults actually WANT to go. If there’s a kid’s menu, great. If not, we’ll work with what they've got.
So we bring you our family’s experiences eating out in Melbourne! Let the fun begin......
It's all happening out the back of this family-friendly cafe on Hampton Street. A whole undovercover outdoor area full of toys and a bouncy castle complete with inflatable slide. Enjoy your brunch or lunch with friends while the little ones play in the cubby, shoot some balls in the basketball hoop, play with toys and ride on the bikes and see-saw.
Choose to sit indoors or there's tables and chairs down one side the outdoors play area. It's a fantastic spot for a Mother's Group catch up!
Behind a bland and boring surburban street frontage hides a true hidden gem. Bustling and a hive of activity, Oasis Bakery is so much more than just a bakery. It's also a huge Gourmet Food Stockist with lots of middle eastern treats, 'up-market' Western and Organic products, a deli, an amazing Cafe and an all-day licensed Eatery.
You'll find aisles of spices, sugary treats, ingredients of the Middle East. That is only half the story. This place also has tangine dishes, kebabs, rice dishes, pizzas, breads, coffee, tea, sugary doughnuts, an array of drinks, fresh dips, cheeses galore, cold items, fruit and veg and almost every other thing imaginable.
Ooh a vegan cafe...so there's no crispy bacon here but there's certainly a happy vibe and very moor-ish dishes and drinks served with a smile. This place screams happy - the staff, the sign on the wall, and even the food smiles back at you. If you love healthy eating or even a macadamia green tea latte or coconut cocoa latte then Serotonin is for you. With names like 'positive pancakes', 'galaxy acai bowl' or even 'nutrition bomb' you're sure to discover a new foodie love.
There's several seating arrangements including a communual table, lowered bench seats and if you're feeling blue or just need a pick-me-up just hop on a swing in the fully enclosed courtyard el fresco area!
